Blocking A Caller ID
In this day and age it isn’t wise to give our number to just anyone. However, this can be a bit difficult when everyone seems to have their hands on a caller id. Caller id allows the person who is being called to see the number so that they know who is calling them.
There is a way that you can block your number so that when you call someone they will not know who is calling them. All you have to do is to type in a specific number. You can have the option of blocking your number for just one call or for every call. This method can be used on land lines and cell phones.
- Decide if you want the block to be permanent or if you want the ability to have your number show to some people all the time. There are codes that you can enter that will make your number not visible on Caller ID as long as you remember to enter it before you make the call. If you think you won’t remember, then perhaps the permanent solution is a better choice for you. You can always show your phone number for a particular call by dialing *82.
- Call up your phone company and tell them that you want your number to be blocked from a caller id. Make sure that they understand this is for every out going call that you make. Upon instruction they will change their system to not identify the number that is being used. You may find that there is a small charge for this service.
- Dial *67 and then the number you want to call and your phone number won’t show up on the caller ID at the other end of the call. This will not work if the number called is a toll-free number such as 700, 800, 900 area codes. Any emergency services call will also show the phone number the call is originating from.
- You can use this same code before the number you are calling when you are using your cell phone to call someone. If you want it to be visible then dial *82 before the number you are calling.
